1776 Capital Management is a personal finance company built on a simple premise: most financial advice is written for people who already have money, already have habits in place, and already know the rules. We build for everyone else.
Our flagship product is Sum, a mobile app designed to make personal finance approachable, engaging, and genuinely useful for young adults who are just starting to take control of their financial lives. Rather than burying people in spreadsheets and jargon, SUM uses gamified tools and clear, actionable insights to turn budgeting, saving, and net worth tracking into habits that actually stick.
We started 1776 Capital Management because the gap between financial literacy and financial action is enormous. Plenty of people know they should budget, save, or invest — far fewer have a tool that makes doing it feel rewarding instead of tedious. SUM is our answer to that gap.
Alongside the app, this site serves as an ongoing resource — practical, no-nonsense writing on budgeting, net worth, taxes, and the behavioral side of money, for people who want real strategies rather than recycled rules of thumb.
1776 Capital Management is the company behind Sum, and this site reflects what we believe: that building wealth starts with understanding it, and understanding it shouldn't be this hard.
Financial concepts shouldn't require a finance degree to understand.
